Enforce The License (Depeche Mode parody of “Enjoy The Silence”)

With their song ‘Enforce the Licence’, the band Farce Deity has created a fantastic and funny parody of the Depeche Mode classic ‘Enjoy The Silence’. The song and the new lyrics are very well done, and the music video, including outtakes, literally crowns the whole thing.

Lyrics of “Farce Deity – Enforce The License”

We’re like giants
Take our clients
I’m cashing in
On every little word

Pay in full to me
Copyright due me
Fair use law be damned
I am invincible

Parodies are hunted
Parodies are weeded
And here are my terms
Courts unfairly uphold the parodies
They’re immune to my charm

Now for token
Depeche Modin’:
Bleeding hearts and synths
Electronical

Depressing refrain
Motives arcane
Words are monotone
And ineffable

All you said you wanted
All you said we needed
Is here in that verse
Arbitrary band commentary
(Blatant irony, of course)

Parodies are hunted
Parodies are weeded
And Fair Use ignored
Words are scary, unless you AdShare me
Then you might be restored

Enforce the license…

I am the founder and main author of the international synth pop magazine Electrozombies. Since my childhood I have been a devotee of melancholic, gloomy electronic music. Started in the late 70s with minimal electro band Kraftwerk and become a real synth pop fan through Depeche Mode's hit 'People Are People' in 1984.

I took over the depechemodecovers.com website in 2024 and relaunched it. As a big fan of Depeche Mode and cover versions, I dedicate myself passionately to this project.
