Color Theory – Ponytail Girl

The song ‘Ponytail Girl’ by ‘Color Theory’ has been circulating for many years on various bootlegs and remix CDs as an unreleased Depeche Mode demo song. And if you don’t know any better, you’d believe it. I myself was convinced for years that I had an unreleased Depeche Mode treasure. Respect to ‘Color Theory’. BTW: The song is the opener of the “Color Theory” album “Life’s Fairytale” and absolute worthy to listen to.

Lyrics of “Color Theory – Ponytail Girl”

At 2 p.m. she eats a late lunch by design
So that she’ll have some self-control at dinnertime
Not much at all gets done on Friday afternoon
So who would mind if she should leave a little soon?
The welcome breath of open air
The daily driving regimen
Talk radio to fill her head
Until the exit’s missed again

At 4 p.m. her second shower of the day
She shuts her eyes and lets the workweek wash away
Repaints her toes and fingernails
Sprays on three dollars of perfume
Brushes her teeth
And tries on clothes
Until they clutter up the room

At 6 p.m. she shows up at her friend’s house late
We have to eat before the concert starts at eight
She says hello to our mutual friends
Hugs me a little bit too tight
They told me she came just for me
And now I see that they were right

It does nothing for me
But make me sad
That you did all this
For nothing

You had to know that I never saw you
As a star in my life’s fairytale
Did you think that you’d really change that at all
By putting your hair in a ponytail?

I am the founder and main author of the international synth pop magazine Electrozombies. Since my childhood I have been a devotee of melancholic, gloomy electronic music. Started in the late 70s with minimal electro band Kraftwerk and become a real synth pop fan through Depeche Mode's hit 'People Are People' in 1984.

I took over the depechemodecovers.com website in 2024 and relaunched it. As a big fan of Depeche Mode and cover versions, I dedicate myself passionately to this project.
